Singing for Caruso…..

•March 10, 2010 • Comments Off on Singing for Caruso…..

I have been asked to be the guest of honor at the 15th Anniversary Gala to celebrate this wonderful museum dedicated to this great singer.
It should be terrific fun and I cannot wait to visit the actual museum in Brooklyn……

Click on the PDF to enjoy and download the flyer about the event…… and then watch this first clip on Youtube by the museum.

It makes such sense, Caruso was a pioneer using the gramophone to spread the word about great opera, bringing his great voice into everyone’s living rooms.

Now he arrives with his museum on Youtube. His clips are already there in amazing numbers and now his museum will use this new medium to continue to spread the word about this great singer and the great world of opera he so beautifully represents……love this.

15th-anniversary

and also here it is for those who do not wish to download……

This is how it feels when I sing

•March 2, 2010 • Comments Off on This is how it feels when I sing

“I was set free! I dissolved in the sea, became white sails and flying spay, became beauty and rhythm… I belonged, without past or future, within peace and unity and a wild joy, within something greater than my own life, or the life of Man, to Life itself. When I was swimming far out… I have had the same experience. Like the veil of things as they seem drawn back by an unseen hand. For a second you see – and seeing the secret, are the secret. For a second there is meaning!” -Eugene O’Neill

I love this brass relief of Verdi…… Look how he maintains his supreme focus while life and laments and even music tries to distract him…..what would he be saying these days? What a brilliant genius at any time of his creative life…..

The new year has brought some progress and some thought, and when I can I will announce some very interesting news.

It felt wonderful to sing, feels good to move better and am keeping the steady but healthy progress to a better “image” and for those that enjoy my gifts, there will be some joy ahead.

Fingers crossed, and so very thrilled.

Tebaldi: Celebrate in all our hearts, Happy Birthday!

•February 2, 2010 • Comments Off on Tebaldi: Celebrate in all our hearts, Happy Birthday!

Pop that cork dear, glorious Renata Tebaldi, all of the world is thinking of you always but especially on this wonderful day, February 1, the day of your arrival here on Earth.
The love affair continues, exhausted but happy, kneeling in humble but supreme happiness, in front of her family.

We are still sending flowers to you on this special day.
So many people called for her birthday always, and sent flowers, three days to a week and a hoarse diva at the end of the celebrations as she would speak to everyone who called.

Dear friend, in this age of “little flickers”, we remember the lush grandeur of your velvet voice, full of all things feminine, vulnerable yet strong, harmonics and gleams of sunshine delivered to an adoring public in a wall of complete dazzling sound and immense depth. You are remembered and loved on this day and always…… Brava Renata…… Viva per sempre, Te-bal-di….!!!!!

Comin’ thru the Rye

2010. Amazing. New decade begins.
When I was in high school, the thought of the Millennium was of a far off date, from my graduation in 1976 from Hollywood High, I would joke to my friends, “Can you imagine what the world will be like?” Here we are already a decade in. Preparing to bring in the new year, and reflecting as I always do on the events of the year and the friends and family I surround myself with… feeling very blessed.

A couple of dear friends crossed over and I will raise a cup of kindness yet in their memory at Midnight…..dear Dolores Sutton and Geri Tallone.

May God bless this marvelous country, this amazing world we love in. May we learn Peace is the only alternative, and acceptance and compassion is the only solution. May our brave brothers and sisters be brought home safely from the wars, and may all those who cry out in torment and need have a hand that lifts them from their misery. We do hear, we are here, here with you we are.

Thank you for the little victories this year, so important, and for which I am full of gratitude. One step at a time, moving forward, serving music, loving and living and giving.

Happy New Year, and as Tiny Tim intones, “God bless us everyone”……… Amen.

All you need is love by the way. This great youtube video speaks, or rather sings for itself….

Finally taking a breather….

•December 16, 2009 • Comments Off on Finally taking a breather….

What a whirlwind little trio of months this has been. Four months ago, and fifty-five pounds fatter, not moving well, back in crisis, and health at risk, life was passing quickly. How merciful God can be. Working hard to push past the stubborn remains of an “isolationist” fat, and winning. The music playing for this period, “Bach’s Sleeper’s Awake….” Planning for the New Year’s, and then so many interesting ideas. Must complete the transformation and then be about my real business, making music.

2010, twenty-ten, amazing. Morning breaks across a wintry New York sky. “Habe dank”, oh yes, “Habe dank!”
